Tata makes Nano booking easy for buyers

A major rush for its small car Nano, which is being launched on March 23, Tata Motors has ensured that the car can be booked at multiple points. A customer can book the car at any Tata dealership, any Croma outlet, any Westside outlet and the booking can even be made online.

To book the car, the customer will have to fill a Rs 300 application form and deposit an amount equal to 70 to 80 per cent of car’s price as booking amount. The form can be deposited at any SBI branch or the place, where it was bought and the payment can be made through a draft or cheque.

Along with the application, an address proof is also needed and that could be a copy of the Voter ID, passport or driving license.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of the car as the demand is expected to be more than what the company can produce now. The Pantnagar plant of the company can make 50,000 to 60, 000 cars and this will is far less than the consumer demand.

It’s only after the plant in Gujarat becomes operational that the company will be able to cater to the customer demand, analysts say. They are also putting a question mark over how long the company can sustain the Rs 1 lakh mark.

Gas prices are up. The economy is down. For some, neither matters--all they want is to be able to drive faster than anyone else on the road, whatever the cost.And the cars that can deliver that promise are built solely for speed. They're not the kinds of cars that are particularly good for anything else, such as dropping off the kids at school (unless they're running exceptionally late that day) or picking up a carton of milk on the way home from work.

These cars reach obscene speeds in mere seconds, the same amount of time that normal cars need just to warm up. Just ask Tom duPont, publisher of duPont Registry, a gallery of fine automobiles.

"A Bugatti test driver took a $100 bill and plastered it on the dashboard," recalls duPont, who was invited to strap into the passenger seat for a demonstration drive. "He told me I could have it if I could grab it once we took off."

The French-made Bugatti Veyron races from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and effortlessly cruises to a top speed of 253 mph. Most probably can't imagine what that feels like, but duPont learned firsthand.

"The car accelerates so fast that you can't touch [the $100 bill]," he said. "You can't move your hands.”

Even if duPont had managed to defy the laws of physics and become $100 richer, that wouldn't have afforded him a Bugatti Veyron or any of the other nine vehicles that made our list of the fastest cars in the world. DuPont cautions that superfast cars "aren't for the faint of heart financially or physically." The Veyron is the most expensive ultra-fast car on our list, with a price tag starting at $1.5 million.

But the Veyron is not the fastest car on the road, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. In March 2007 it tested the American-made SSC (Shelby Super Cars) Ultimate Aero and crowned it the Fastest Production Car in the world.

The $654,400 twin-turbocharged car boasts a top speed of 257 mph and goes from 0 to 60 in 2.78 seconds. Snagging this title marked a first for a U.S. auto manufacturer since the Ford GT40 claimed the Guinness record in 1967 with a top speed of 167 mph.

Rounding out the top five fastest cars are the $695,000 Swedish-made Koenigsegg CCX, top speed 250 mph; $595,450 American-made Saleen S7 Twin Turbo, top speed 248 mph; and the $700,000 British-made Bristol Fighter T, top speed 225 mph.

There are only a handful of these vehicles available in the world. Bugatti has said it will build a total of only 300 Veyrons since the model was introduced in 2005; Bristol custom-builds 20 Fighters each year.

Buyers who want these cars are placing their orders two years in advance, says Bassam Al-Farraj, founder and publisher of Rich Guy magazine. People who just can't wait that long will pay a premium, he says.

He adds, "I've seen people pay a million for the Ferrari Enzo," which is no longer in production but has a base manufacturer's suggested retail price of $670,000.

All of the cars on our list are street legal. So if you really do want to use one of them to cruise around town (or test the limits of how late in the morning you can leave for work), that's up to you. When researching which cars truly go fastest--with the automakers themselves , we excluded cars that are built and equipped for the sole purpose of racing on a track. We also excluded vehicles that are no longer in production.

If the wait is a bit too much to bear for one of the aforementioned cars and you are on a slightly tighter budget, you could check the second half of our fastest-cars list--some no less expensive, or more available. But you might get lucky.

They're the $741,000 Italian-made Pagani Zonda F, top speed 215 mph; $325,560 Netherlands-made Spyker C8 Double 12 S, top speed 215 mph; the $430,000 Italian-made Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, top speed 213 mph; $497,750 U.K.-made McLaren Mercedes SLR, top speed 206 mph; and the U.S.-made Silva GT3, which clocks in at 205 mph and sells for $75,000.

Despite the high prices and lack of local roads on which one can actually drive these cars at their maximum speeds, demand for these luxury treats is heating up, says DuPont. Wealthy buyers in new markets like China are searching for expensive rewards for their newfound riches.

"Only the top 2% of the economic pyramid of the world are buying these cars," says duPont. "It is a reward for achieving personal success in life. There is new wealth emerging in developing countries, and they want the same luxury rewards."

And if any of those people happen to take you for a test drive, they may, with luck, put a $100 bill on the dashboard. Good luck grabbing it, but you're probably best off just enjoying the ride.

Honda Aviator: Ridden Review

To be honest, I didn't quite know what to make of the Honda Aviator. It was supposed to protect Honda's massive lead in the scooter segment, but with theActiva now looking its age (although still going quite nicely, thank you) and theDio never really having taken off, you would think Honda would need something spectacularly good right?

Actually no, they would just something that would put the upstart Flyte and the dowdy-perky Access into their places. Is the Aviator that machine?

What is the Aviator, let us start from there. The Aviator is Honda's fourth scooter offering, and their third twist-go format product. Like the two that went before it, it is very much an Activa platform product, which means engine and chassis have come from the venerable, wildly successful scooter. There are minor changes. The engine was tweaked in the sense that the air cleaner and associated plumbing is slightly different. It evidently does not change peak power or torque, but gently boosts the low-end torque just the slightest little bit. Since the Aviator now sports a telescopic front fork and in the top model, a 12-inch alloy front wheel with a disc brake, there are minor changes in the headstock area, aimed at accommodating the stanchions.

Add in the body panels, and well, Bob's your uncle. The big change, styling, actually does have a purpose. Honda says the Activa is perfect compromise. It sits bang in the middle between male tastes and female and bisects traditional values and youthful looks as well. The Dio, is more male, more youthful. The Aviator, in that perspective is an all-male product, aimed at mature (30-ish) males who would like an upmarket looking scooter in their garage. In addition, we were told at the Auto Expo, to a Honda Civic. What, you think I'm making this up?

The telescopic forks and the brakes are actually a subject matter of mucho laughter on my part. You see, years ago, I had the privilege of attending the local launch (Mumbai) of the Activa where a certain Japanese gentleman dismissively told me that Honda knew better. That tele-forks and disc brakes on a 7 bhp scooter were overkill. On the same scale as using a Sidewinder or HellFire instead of the horn. That Honda would NEVER add either to anything this puny, by policy anything under 100 kph top speed did not merit either. On an Activa? Pah-san.

Well, it come full circle, innit? Mr Unnamed San? Yes, this 7 bhp Honda scooter, sports both. For a premium price tag, but it does have them.

Anyway, rant over and let us return to the Aviator. I'm not put off or impressed by the looks. I think the rear-end looks a bit hotch-potch, especially the flat part that sits right next to the curvy lights and panels. And I think the front looks, um, okay.

On the move, though, this is an impressive scooter. The tele-forks, praise the lord, make a huge, big, massive difference. Here, then, is a scooter that easily has the best ride quality on offer on any two-wheeler sporting sub-13-inch wheels. It does not thud through bumps like the Activa and is better than even the Flyte and Access, both of which also sport tele-forks. Braking, of course, is superb with the discs, although, as usual, I would have liked more bite. Then again, I always want more bite. In feel, the disc brake feels like an immensly powerful drum brake, which I suspect, is exactly what it's supposed to feel like.

The engine, of course, is butter smooth, almost transparent in use. The Aviator, despite giving away 1 bhp or more to the newly introduced competition, does not feel slow. I rode the Access right before I got on the Aviator and while the Suzuki is definitely the faster scoot of the two, the Aviator does not feel sluggish. In traffic, there would not be much in it.

As a male scooter, the Aviator does seat you taller and I quite like the new ergonomics.

Um, what else? Oh yeah, Honda said bigger underseat storage, but I forgot to look. They claim a full face helmet will now sit under the seat in comfort. Well, I haven't still tried that, but I'm not buying.

Finally, the base version of the Aviator (12-inch steel wheels with a drum brake) is Rs 47,200, which is Rs 5,900 more than the Activa in Mumbai. The full-options gets alloys and disc and costs a hefty Rs 4,000 more. As you can tell, that is a heck of a lot of money. The top-model, the one that does actually have useful extras, is almost as expensive as a top-line 125cc commuter.

And yet, like the 150cc-rivallingBlaze, I think the Aviator should do rather well in the market. I think the scooter market now has people who are, in fact, looking for a slightly larger, newer product with more features, and consequently (justifiably, even) have a larger price tag. Which, if you come to think of it, almost describes the Aviator. Almost? Yes, if it did actually sport a 9 bhp 125cc four-stroke engine, instead of 7 bhp 102cc job, I think it would have been perfect.

Mercedes Benz has unleashed one of the biggest craze this year, the all new 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster 722 S. The new Roadster 722 S is powered by a 5.5L V8 AMG engine delivering 650 horsepower and maximum torque of 604 lb-ft. The engine is associated with a five speed automatic transmission which is designed for high performance. The car accelerates from 0 up to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 335 kilometers per hour. Mercedes claims that this two-seater car's soft-top is capable of withstanding high speeds exceeding 200 miles per hour which is made of carbon fiber.

With a rigid spring and shock absorber configurations on its suspension, the SLR McLaren Roadster 722 S body is lowered by 10mm on its front and rear, making it sure that the car has a guaranteed handling stability. A 19-inch lightweight forged aluminum wheels allows a nice view of the red painted brake calipers made from a highly-resistant carbon fiber ceramic brake discs.

Review Electric Chopper

I bought this to ride with my kids on the driveway. It is a blast. I am over 6 feet and weigh more than 200 pounds. It does just fine. Good speed, easy to put together and super sharp styling make this a good choice for anyone. I even ride my sons on my lap while riding and it pulls fine. I wouldn't recommend this for children under the age of 14 as stated on the box. Motorcycle riding experience would be a plus because of its wide turning radius and short handlebar movement. It will take practice to get the hang of this bike on turns, especially in tight spaces. Make sure you inflate the tires because there is not nearly enough air in them out of the box even though they feel "full." Don't buy this thinking it is tiny. It is about 5 and a half feet long from front tire to back wheel. It is worth the price.

STYLISH SUPER BIKE DUCATI COMES TO INDIA

Ducati has landed in India. So should we, really, be celebrating?

This is a question I've faced in the recent days from a number of people. And why not. A product range, spanning the stratospheric Rs 15-50 lakh price range, is nothing to be scoffed at. Even as a motorcycle enthusiast, you have to wonder if you should be investing Rs 50 lakh in a depreciating, if gorgeous asset or in property/stocks or something. More to the point still, is a Ducati 1098R, arguably the fastest, trickest Ducati money can buy right now (Desmosedici RR is formally out of production and all of that sort of thing), is a Ducati 1098R really worth, um, let's see, three R1s? Or for the that matter, two 848s and change?

But we'll come back to that in a bit. First of all, have a beer on me. That Ducati is here, with a full range, with plans for showrooms in all major cities and with the full intention of staying on is a good thing. Ducati, you have to remember is no doddering, floundering Italian company any more. Their last year was their best year so far, so on the face of it, they are in a position where they could relax, sit back, knock back some classy Chianti and congratulate themselves. They also happened to knock the entire Japanese clique off their MotoGP feet in 2007 and the tiny company (one way or another) has made it a habit of keeping everyone else embarrased in the World Superbikes paddock.

So what we have here is a significant event. Now, you could argue that Bentley/Lamborghini launching in India is insignificant. After all, how many people can really afford Rs 2 Crore cars. And I'd have to agree. Ducati is a pretty similar company in profile, actually. Not only are they a specialist manufacturer - despite the Multistrada and other oddities, they are firmly a sportsbike maker, they are also certified exotica. If the Yamaha R1 was the two-wheeled equivalent of a Nissan GT-R, the Ducati 1098, would actually be the Ferrari F430. That's sexy, exotic, powerful and not completely devoid of quirks.

But the heart of the matter is that while Lamborghini, Bentley etc are already here, Ducati is the first exotic bike maker that thinks 110 per cent duties, all manner of bureaucratic hurdles etc are all worth tackling to enter our market. They might only sell 50 bikes this year, but they are confident that those numbers will rise. Slowly, maybe, but steadily. And if Ducati thinks so, believe me, they are hardly likely to be alone in the room. You can bet your hard-earned rupee that everyone else in the room is paying attention as well. More of the same will follow, especially if Ducati pull of a coup by selling off all of their bikes before the year is out. I believe that may not be impossible. Every single exotic brand you can think of is running well ahead of their targets and I cannot see why Ducati should be any different. And yes, it is a luxury good. So just like you don't expect to use a Bentley or Patek Phillipe in daily use, Ducati owners will also use their bikes sparingly.

Obviously, most of you, and that includes me, will not be able to afford these prices, but look at it this way. If you use a needle to make a hole in the wall, only a little of anything can cross the wall. But if you take a 70mm howitzer to the wall, many other things can also cross over. As in, if you have bikes between Rs 15-50 lakh on sale, someone is sure to realise that a gap in product offerings between Rs 95,000 to Rs 15,00,000 is an unusually large hole in a booming market. A gap like that cannot remain ignored for long.

And finally, is a Ducati 1098R really worth three R1s. Maybe if you lived right next to Monza and were dating the circuit security chief's daughter. You couldn't drive a Ferrari to work everyday even if you wanted to. A GT-R on the other hand, is very useable, if a little harder to live with than a Corolla. Which is what the R1 would turn out to be. So, if you have the cash for the 1098R, I suggest you buy an 848 (sporty, fast but not really a prima donna) or a hypermotard (fun, fast-ish, up for it, real) instead. Not only will you save a bunch of cash, you'll be far happier with them.

If there's any ambiguity left, I'll tell you this. I've looked up my family tree and there ain't no uncles lolling about in the branches, waiting to drop into graves, leaving me tons of cash to buy the 1098R with. Despite which, I'm off to buy a Bud to celebrate... Exorbitant, exotic and all of that, but atleast I can exercise my freedom to buy a Ducati when/if I had the money...

2009 Yamaha V-Max

Motorcycle News, the British motorcycle newspaper that knows more than anyone else about the two-wheelers coming in the next decade, have pulled off a coup by getting the details of the V-Max, which was due for an unveil on June 4 as a 2009 model for Yamaha.

The launch of Pulsar 220 was a low-profile affair, away from the media glare.

Priced at Rs 84,000, ex-showroom Pune, about 20 units of the bike have already been booked by customers with a down payment of Rs 10,000. A total of 35 units are allotted to the showroom and is sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. The next batch of the bikes will only be delivered by February.

The bike is expected to be launched in Mumbai by the second half of January next year. The bike will be in all the Bajaj showrooms across the country by the start of February.

In Mumbai, the bike will be priced in the range of Rs 87,000 to Rs 88,000, ex-showroom Mumbai.

Bajaj has gone for a soft launch technique known as ‘test launch’, wherein the company will be playing a wait-and-watch game to see the initial response.

Bajaj’s second big offering for 2007 is Pulsar 200, which is expected to be launched in January next month. Sources said the bike will be a direct launch, priced in the range of Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000, ex-showroom Mumbai.

Interestingly, only those customers who are able to produce a proof of residence in Pune will be able to buy the vehicle.

The waiting period for Pulsar 220 is 10 to 12 days and is available in three colours – blue, black and red.

The bike will be directly pitted against the company’s arch rival Hero Honda’s Karizma, which is priced in the same range with relatively same power output. Hero Honda is also currently testing the fuel injected version of the Karizma with the launch slated for February-March 2007.

Bajaj Pulsar DTS-Fi 220 has a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke engine, belting out 20 bhp of power with 1.95 kg of torque.

I would never call a 160 bhp motorcycle anything superlative. Matter of principle. King of the road, street scorcher, whatever - they are names reserved for motorcycles above 600 cc and should remain so. But if I come down to earth and look at Indian roads, there is a different world around. Here, we have little four stroke machines that do their own little bit of scorching and wheeleing, and in that world, it has its own little tyrants and knights. The Karizma, the Pulsar 200 DTS-i, the CBZ X-Treme, TVS Apache, Pulsar 150.. and that world has just got a new claimant - the TVS Apache RTR 160 motorcycle. Priced right against the other 150 cc models from other manufacturers at Rs 60,000 approx, the Apache RTR with its 160 cc will really be serious temptation for anyone looking for a 150cc category motorcycle.

The TVS Apache motorcycle impressed us all first when they had those bad boys on motorcycles in their TV ad spots that went "now or never" , and "dhinchal dhnchak". The styling caught everyone's eye, and it look just a little while for the Apache to capture everyone's imagination - tired as they were of the Pulsar 150s, 180s that were ruling the road. The TVS Apache quickly captured hearts - OverDrive, BS Motoring and Autocar named it Bike of the Year 2006 and sales were good.

Sometime later, TVS decided to up their game. And thus we have the TVS Apache RTR 160. Adding only 10 cc meant that the bike will still be evaulated against the Pulsar 150 DTS-i - its primary competitor - while beating it easily. Possible, as the TVS motorcycle still weighs some 7 kilograms less than the CBZ X-Treme and Pulsar 150. The Pulsar models have steadily seen upgrades in style, cowl, LCD speedos and LCD tail-lights, and the Apache was going to do all that - plus beat the Pulsar 150 DTS-i on the streets. And going by initial impressions, that is exactly the RTR 160 will do.

So what is the RTR? It is supposed to mean Racing Throttle response - don't take that phrase too seriously, without or without it, the motorcycle will do what it promises. In the TVS Apache RTR 160, the engine capacity si up to 159.7cc. To increase torque, as well as to boost top end whack, bore and stroke were changed to 62 and 52.9 m. What The Apache RTR 160 will give you is 15.2 bhp at 8500 rpm, and a torque of 1.31 kgm at 6000 rpm. To put it in perspective, the the power produced is more than what the original Pulsar 180 did when it hit the market. But the RTR 160 is a lighter motorcycle than the Pulsar 150 and its other competitor, the Hero Honda CBZ X-Treme.

What is the performance on offer? There are no official test rides done by anyone so far - but there are many who rode it and came away and penned down their very favourable first impressions. What TVS claims is a 0-60 kmph figure of 4.8 seconds, and 100 kmph would come up in 17.7 seconds. Actual figures would be a little less exciting than that normally - not that you would still complain. Max speed is claimed to be 118-120 kmph. Almost everyone who rode one claims that the RTR 160 Apache.

The more noticeable difference is the length - the TVS Apache RTR stretches a 2020 mm end to end. The swingarm is 40 mm longer in the RTR 160, all the better for stability. There is a 270 m petal disc- new for India - that cools better and stops great. There is nice styling touches all over in all those places no one would bother earlier. So you have clip-on aluminum handlebars (yay!), LED tail lamp, so-called aircraft-style fuel cap, split grab rail ... The Apache RTR 160 also features the now standard tachometer, clock, trip meter, fuel guage and odometer.

You are not going to complain about style with the Apache RTR 160. I don't care much for the front fairing (didn't like it in the original Apache either), but the RTR's engine cowl is a neat touch - and the racing stripes, yes! Even the wheels will have a nice pinstripe running along the rim, adding to the style. Some don't care much for the racing stripe on the front mudguard and elsewhere - but that is a standard complaint between the ones who like their motorcycle plain vs embellished.

When it comes to exclusively refining BMWs, Hamann-Motorsport is one of the first addresses. Again, the Laupheim-based company gives proof to this by introducing its latest refinements for the new BMW 6-series. By developing an entire tuning programme not only for the coupé, but also the convertible, Hamann-Motorsport renders an additional sportive and individual touch to the facelift already applied by BMW.

Already the design elements create this impression and increase the aerodynamics as well. The front- and rear spoiler reduce the buoyant forces of the Hamann BMW 6-series which has a significant effect on the car´s handling and agility. This is also achieved with an additional pair of side skirts which significantly calms the air flow between both axles. The roof- and rear spoiler also ensure the necessary surface pressure on the asphalt. Mainly on country roads with winding sections, the Hamann-aerodynamic package unfolds its strengths and generates pure enjoyment of driving.

At Hamann-Motorsport, the individual wishes of our customers are also top of the list. This has been taken into account when designing the tuning package for the BMW 6-series. Due to the large interest in different optical programmes, our designers developed another aerodynamics package called EDITION RACE. This turns the BMW in an impressive sports car, as it consequently emphasizes the broadening components. New front wings, 4-part wing broadenings in the back and enormous side skirts transform the BMW 6-series into an automobile which looks like a race car from the German Touring Car Masters or other touring car championships.

But there is even more to the Hamann sport tuning elements under the bonnet. When developing the Hamann BMW 6-series program, our technicians rather concentrated on evolution instead of revolution. Basically, the sport limousine has a good motorisation, therefore we put a special focus on the performance enhancement for the 630i, 650i and the diesel BMW 635d. Adapting the motor management with up to 21 hp more and the powerful torque increase can be felt immediately when accelerating. Moreover, Hamann customers can look forward to the Vmax abolition. This enables the BMW 650i to boost the maximum speed from 250 to 270 km/h.

The Hamann sport exhaust system renders an earthy and impressive sound. The stainless steel muffler with its four round tail pipes can be optically perked up with metal catalysts, sport fan manifolds and a middle pipe set.

The rim programme is also impressive in terms of dimension and diversity. No matter if you are looking for something sporty, elegant or noble - Hamann offers varying wheel-designs and sizes. The designation HM EVO reveals a one-piece wheel with 20 inches. Its modern style is underlined with its black-lacquered varnish, diamond-grinded hub star and a discreet recess. Five extended and vaulted triple spokes display the optical and technical finesse. The recommended front wheel-tyre combination is 8,5Jx20 inches with tyres measuring 245/35ZR20 and 10,5Jx20 inches with 285/30ZR20 tyres in the back.

One of the technical highlights of the offered tuning programme is the 21-inch model called HM EVO "FORGED". Manufactured in forge technology, it is extremely light and improves the handling, acceleration and braking characteristics by its reduced unsuspended masses. Hamann recommends high performance tyres type S1 EVO from its technology partner Hankook.

The extended product programme of HAMMAN´s sport accessories includes progressively coiled chassis springs for lowering the chassis, a height adjustable coil-overs and a sport braking system. Aston Martin V8 Vantage - originally launched to widespread critical acclaim at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005 - is to receive significant technical enhancements, reaffirming the car's position as one of the world's most desirable and exhilarating sports cars.

While the universally distinctive and award-winning shape of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage is retained, the car benefits from a number of technical changes which include significantly up-rated engine performance from a new 4.7 litre power unit in both Coupe and Roadster variants. Other changes include revised dynamics to take full advantage of increased power and torque availability, improved Sportshift™ transmission software and a new sports suspension option.

The 4.7 litre V8 engine has a power output of 420bhp (an 11% increase on the previous 4.3 litre unit) and delivers peak torque of 470Nm (15% increase), providing the Aston Martin V8 Vantage with new reserves of mid-range performance, an improved 0-60mph time of 4.7 seconds and top speed of 180mph (288kph). Combined European fuel economy and CO2 emissions are also improved by 13% (Sportshift™).

Inside, the changes include a new centre console and revised switchgear and the introduction of an ECU replacing the previous V8 Vantage key. Externally, the acclaimed Aston Martin V8 Vantage design appearance is enhanced with a range of new standard and optional 19'' alloy wheels.

Engine

Improvements in performance have been achieved through a number of carefully developed changes to Aston Martin's acclaimed V8 engine.

The cylinder bore and stroke has been increased from 89mm to 91mm and 86mm to 91mm respectively, giving a total displacement of 4735cc.

The increase in cylinder bore is facilitated by a move to cylinder liners that are pressed into the pre-machined aluminium alloy block, allowing a thinner liner than was possible with the cast-in design of the 4.3 litre engine.

The new forged steel crankshaft provides the 91mm stroke and incorporates new holes in the counter weights for reduced rotating mass and improved inter-bay breathing. New forged steel con-rods and cast aluminium pistons complete the capacity-related changes.

Other key changes include efficiency improvements to the dry sump lubrication system, including a new sump casting with oil pick-up points moved from the front and rear to the sides of the sump. The cylinder heads are modified with a new intake port and an inlet valve size increase from 34.9mm to 35.9mm. The intake manifold has been modified to match the new port to optimise air flow.

Transmission

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage transmissions have also undergone changes to improve performance and to handle the increased levels of power and torque. Both the standard manual stick-shift gearbox and the optional Sportshift™ transmission benefit from a modified clutch and flywheel, reducing clutch pedal efforts and delivering a 0.5kg weight saving, reducing the rotating masses within the powertrain, and hence increasing engine responsiveness.

Aston Martin's Sportshift™ transmission has undergone a series of specific changes to broaden the capabilities of the gearbox to offer customers enhanced comfort and convenience with sporting capabilities. Changes include a revised control strategy, allowing the transmission, rather than the engine, to dictate how best the engine torque should be deployed to optimise performance and deliver power smoothly and consistently.

'Dual Throttle Map' software is also featured. When 'Comfort' mode is selected the engine reacts in a smoother more progressive manner to driver throttle inputs and in the default 'Sports' mode the throttle mapping is more aggressive, delivering a more dynamic and sporting feel.

Sportshift™ now also has the capability to take inputs from the steering wheel enabling the current gear to be held when the car is negotiating a corner and hill descent detection, allowing a low gear to be held, maximising the effects of engine braking.

Suspension

A series of improvements are introduced to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage chassis and suspension setup to deliver improved body control and low speed ride quality; enabling the driver to take full advantage of the increased performance potential.

A number of the improved components originally introduced on the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster are now carried over to the Coupe, including revised upper damper mountings and bump stops. Additionally, the front spring rates are stiffened by 11% at the front and 5% at the rear.

Steering geometry is also modified to improve steering feel, while the front lower suspension arm compliance bushes are stiffened by 22% to provide enhanced steering response and handling.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage also now benefits from Bilstein dampers as standard; these low-friction dampers provide improved levels of dynamic capabilities and further improve ride quality.

Design & Optional Equipment

Also introduced as an option for both Coupe and Roadster variants is a new Sports Pack which comprises forged lightweight alloy wheels aiding a lower unsprung mass, re-tuned Bilstein dampers with improved dynamic response, up-rated springs and a revised rear anti-roll bar (Coupe only). The Sports Pack is intended to offer greater agility, high speed body control and precision feel for the most enthusiastic of drivers.

Although the award-winning exterior design of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage remains largely unchanged, a new 20-spoke 19'' alloy wheel is introduced as standard, with either diamond turned silver or graphite finishes available as options, affording customers maximum choice. Alternatively, as part of the Sports Pack option, a 5-spoke lightweight aluminium wheel will be provided.

In the cabin, a new centre console constructed from die cast zinc alloy with a graphite silver finish is introduced along with a new ECU - first seen on the Aston Martin DBS in 2007. The ECU - constructed from glass, polished stainless steel and polycarbonate - replaces the key used previously for the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The revised car also includes a new Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation System offering faster route processing, additional features and improved graphics. Full ipod/MP3 integration is retained as standard equipment.

First shown as a concept car at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Aston Martin AMV8 Concept caused a worldwide sensation as it allowed Aston Martin to enter a new sector of the premium sports car market with a genuine alternative to other cars on offer. Best in Show bike was won by Paul Niven from Galashiels for his stunning all-black Harley engined special.

Suzuki Hayabusa

The Suzuki Hayabusa (also known as the GSX1300R in some countries) is a hypersport motorcycle originally introduced by Suzuki in 1999. It has a 1340 cc (81.7 cu in) inline-4 engine and was consistently tested as the fastest production motorcycle in the world before the 2001 detuning agreement referred below.The 2008 model has a MSRP of US$ 11,999.The name Hayabusa translates directly from the japanese as Peregrine Falcon, the bird capable of achieving speeds over 200 mph (322 km/h) -- and predator of (perhaps not coincidently) the common blackbird. The name is a subtle reference to Honda's competing Hawk models. When introduced in 1999, it overtook the Honda CBR 1100XXSuper Blackbird as the fastest production motorcycle. The first generation of the Hayabusa was called the GSX1300R and was powered by a 1299 cc (79.2 cu in) inline-4 liquid-cooled engine. It remained relatively unchanged up through the 2007 model year.From its debut in 1999 to June 2007 over 100,000 Hayabusas were sold worldwide.Every biker have a dream of riding Hyabusa because of the magic of the bike.Its became a passion to lots of people specially for youngsters.

Suzuki Bandit

The Suzuki Bandit is a series of standard (sometimes called "sport-standard") street motorcycles produced by Suzuki.All engines are DOHC inline four with 16 valves. 600, 650, 750 and 1200 models employ SACS (Suzuki Advanced Cooling System) cooling that is combined air-cooled and oil-cooled; The 600cc model's engine is taken from the GSX-F 600 and retuned for more midrange. The 1200cc models engine on the other hand is a bored out GSXR 1100 item. The 250 and 400cc models are water-cooled.For model year 2007, Suzuki abandoned the venerable early GSX-R derived engine in favor of new fuel-injected, liquid-cooled engines. Both 650 and 1250 models now meet euro-3 emission standards.The 'S' models come with a factory half-fairing, and starting from model year 2000, dual headlights. The base model 'N' is an unfaired "naked" bike with a single headlight.
